Biography of SABA

Anna Saba Lykke Oehlenschlæger, affectionately known as Saba, shines as a multi-talented Danish artist, gracing the realms of singing, musical theatre, and modelling. Her birth on August 11, 1997, marks the beginning of a journey that now sees her poised to represent Denmark with her song "Sand" in the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest.

Born alongside her twin sister Andrea in the vibrant city of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on that memorable August day, the sisters embarked on a life journey together. Adopted at the tender age of eight months, their roots took hold in the serene surroundings of Ringkøbing, Denmark. In her formative years, Oehlenschlæger found joy and camaraderie in football, thriving in her involvement with DBU Jutland.

Following her graduation from high school, Oehlenschlæger, alongside her sister, made the vibrant city of Copenhagen their new home. While her sister pursued her passion for singing and the theatrical arts, Oehlenschlæger initially explored the world of modelling and entrepreneurship, delving into ventures such as teeth whitening products. However, destiny had other plans, and her path took a delightful turn when she stepped onto the stage of Østre Gasværk Teater for the production of "Hair" in 2023, marking her captivating debut as a stage actress.

Saba's journey to the grand stage of Eurovision gained momentum as she was announced as a participant in the prestigious Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2024, Denmark's revered national selection event for Eurovision, presenting her enchanting composition, "Sand". Triumphantly emerging victorious in the final on February 17, 2024, she earned the esteemed privilege of representing Denmark in the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest.

In 2018, Oehlenschlæger courageously shared her journey with bipolar I disorder, a testament to her resilience amidst challenges that led to several hospitalizations until 2020, as poignantly depicted in the 2020 DR documentary "Min sindssyge tvilling" ('My insane twin'). Additionally, she has valiantly confronted her struggles with self-harm during her teenage years and now stands as a beacon of hope and understanding, serving as an ambassador for the Danish Depression Association.

The Danish entry embodies an infectious pop melody that's effortlessly enjoyable. Such upbeat tunes have become a hallmark of the Scandinavian music landscape, fitting seamlessly into the repertoire of Norway or Sweden as well. Despite its catchy vibe, the song delves into the poignant narrative of a relationship's unexpected demise. Saba's mesmerizing stage presence during the Danish final left a lasting impression on the audience, showcasing her remarkable talent. Here's to hoping she can channel that same energy across the Öresund to Malmö and enrapture the Eurovision Song Contest audience with her performance.
