Biography of Tommy Cash

This year marks Estonia's 30th participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, congratulations! The national selection event ‘Eesti Laul” was streamlined to a single show, unlike previous years. From the start, Tommy Cash emerged as the frontrunner, and in the end, he secured Estonia's ticket to Basel with overwhelming support from both the jury and public vote.

Born in Tallinn in 1991, Tomas Tammemets adopted the name of Johnny Cash's brother as his stage persona and first gained recognition as a freestyle dancer. In 2014, he released his debut studio album ‘Euroz Dollaz Yeniz’ launching a career that would transcend borders.

Over time, Tommy Cash has become a leading voice in post-Soviet rap, known for pushing artistic boundaries well beyond Eastern Europe. He has collaborated with acts like Little Big, Russia’s intended Eurovision 2020 entry, and toured across North America with artists such as Nvdes and Oliver Tree. His music videos are often surreal, blending performance art with music and turning his work into a unique audio-visual experience.

Tommy Cash stands as a symbol of radical artistic freedom. His lyrics reflect the starkness of his homeland and the bleakness of his early life, themes that resonate deeply with his audience.

His distinct vision has attracted attention from international creatives, including British pop artist Charli XCX, Berlin’s electro duo ‘Modeselektor’, and avant-garde fashion designer Rick Owens. As a result, Tommy Cash is now a regular guest at major fashion weeks in Paris and Milan.

Estonia’s 2025 Eurovision entry, “Espresso Macchiato” by Tommy Cash, is as bold and complex as its title suggests. On the surface, it may seem playful, but beneath lies a rich metaphor. The drink, strong espresso with a splash of milk, mirrors the song’s contrasts: sweetness and bitterness, tradition and rebellion, identity and alienation.

Drawing from post-Soviet themes, Tommy Cash uses surreal visuals and satirical lyrics to explore consumerism, modern culture, and the emptiness behind status symbols. Musically, it’s a chaotic blend of rap, electronic, and experimental sounds—deliberately jarring, like a shot of espresso.

More than a song, “Espresso Macchiato” is a provocative statement on art, Europe, and breaking the conventions—especially the Eurovision one.
