With just over 27 days until the grand opening of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, excitement is building as more details about this year’s event in Basel have been revealed. During a vibrant press conference hosted aboard a boat on the Rhine, moderator Sven Eppenay guided media and fans alike through the latest plans and surprises for Europe’s biggest music event.
Among the standout announcements: a highly anticipated reunion performance featuring four of Switzerland’s most beloved Eurovision stars. Paola (Switzerland 1969 and 1980), Peter Reber of Peter, Sue & Marc (Switzerland 1971, 1976, 1979, and 1981), Luca Hänni (Switzerland 2019), and Gjon’s Tears (Switzerland 2020 and 2021) will share the stage for the very first time. Together, they will perform a powerful medley celebrating Switzerland’s rich Eurovision legacy—a moment sure to be a highlight of the Grand Final.
The press event also shed light on the broader show concept and logistics behind the 2025 edition. Executive producers Reto Peritz and Moritz Stadler confirmed that preparations are well on track, with St. Jakobshalle being transformed into a Eurovision-ready arena. The city itself is embracing the contest with a full “city dressing” campaign, featuring ESC-branded trams and colorful banners throughout Basel.
Transport options and accessibility were also key topics, ensuring that both locals and international guests can enjoy the event smoothly. A strong emphasis is being placed on public value content, aiming to include and engage as many people as possible across Switzerland and beyond.
The official opening ceremony, set to kick things off in style, promises to be record-breaking: the traditional “Turquoise Carpet” will be the longest in Eurovision history. And the spirit of “Swissness” will be infused throughout all three live shows—showcasing the country’s beauty, culture, and musical heritage.
Work is also in full swing for the interval acts in both the semi-finals and the Grand Final, as the team behind the scenes prepares a memorable show that blends tradition, innovation, and emotion.
