Biography of Shkodra Elektronike
Shkodra Elektronike is an Albanian duo that caused a major upset by surpassing fan-favourite Elvana Gjata at last year’s Festivali i Këngës. Originally from the city of Shkodër, the pair later emigrated to Italy, bringing with them a unique musical vision that blends electronic beats with the rich folk traditions of their hometown. This fusion of modern and traditional sounds has become their signature—and a winning formula. It has earned them multiple accolades and invitations to perform at prominent festivals across Europe, including Paléo Festival (Geneva), EXIT Festival (Novi Sad), MOST Festival (Veszprém), Pin Music Conference (Sofia), and SoAlive (Vienna).
Currently, the duo is working on their debut album, which promises to be a milestone project. It will feature a number of high-profile collaborations, including the Albanian Iso-Polyphonic Choir (recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage), celebrated cellist Redi Hasa, and Italian trumpeter Roy Paci.
The Song
Song: Zjerm
Writer(s): Beatrice Gjergji & Lek Gjeloshi
Composer(s): Beatrice Gjergji & Kole Laca
Broadcaster: RTSH
With their song “Zjerm” (“Flame”), Shkodra Elektronike ignite a spark of hope in dark times through poetic lyrics and a haunting soundscape.
Fire!
Fall upon our tribal wild dances,
As avalanche echoes
On mountains, rolls down.Fire!
The nameless and pure people,
Fall and roll down the same
As seven knives the soul straightly pierce.Fire!
Here the sea, the sand and the moon sleep,
And the stars we do not see
Trampled under the feet,
Sleepwalking to be free.
Blending electronic music with traditional Albanian elements, they create a hypnotic atmosphere with a great rhythm that sets them apart. This captivating fusion could make “Zjerm” a dark horse contender in Basel—especially if the stage performance brings the mood to life. Albania is definitely one to watch (and listen to) this year.
