Biography of Erika Vikman
Finland has a history of sending bold and eccentric performances to Eurovision, from Käärijä’s electrifying “Cha Cha Cha” to Windows95man’s outrageous “No Rules”. This year, the trend continues—and even escalates—with the beloved Finnish singer Erika Vikman taking centre stage.
Erika first attempted to represent Finland in 2020 with her provocative, erotically charged song “Cicciolina”, finishing as the runner-up. However, in 2024, she made an even bigger impact with her daring stage performance of “Ich Komme”, shocking audiences in Finland and beyond. The song’s title, German for “I am coming”, is an intentional provocation—one that Finnish audiences fully understand.
Her chances of winning Finland’s national selection, UMK, skyrocketed after the unexpected disbandment of the metal core band One Morning Left, a strong pre-contest favourite. Ultimately, Erika secured victory in commanding fashion, earning the highest scores from both the international juries and the public vote. Her performance in Tampere was filled with bold innuendos—she provocatively played with her microphone stand and, in a grand finale, rode an oversized microphone stand with fireworks erupting as the song reached its climax.
Born in Tampere in 1993, Erika Susanna Vikman studied at Tampere Coeducational High School before pursuing pop-jazz vocals at Pirkanmaa Music College. She is a trained jazz singer and was crowned Finland’s Tango Queen in 2016. Despite signing a record deal with Sony Music early in her career, her initial singles struggled to gain traction. However, “Cicciolina” brought her widespread attention in 2020, setting the stage for her triumphant Eurovision bid in 2024. This year, her dream of representing Finland at the ESC has finally become a reality.

At Eurovision, multilingual songs are nothing new, and “Ich Komme” follows this tradition with a bold mix of Finnish and German. The provocative title perfectly reflects the song’s themes, which also revolve around heartbeats, passion, and the rising moon.
The track is undeniably catchy, with a melody that’s easy to sing along to. It opens with a strikingly intense intro, featuring a deep, almost ominous male voice in the background declaring “Ich Komme”. As expected, the song is filled with unmistakable sensual allusions, building in intensity, getting faster until it reaches a dramatic, explosive climax.
Due to its risqué nature, the EBU and the Eurovision reference group have already advised keeping the performance within acceptable limits. However, despite—or perhaps because of—its controversy, “Ich Komme” has shot to the top of the betting odds and is already one of the favourites to win.
