Biography of Louane

Louane grew up in a blended family in Hénin-Beaumont, a struggling coal-mining town in northern France, best known for being a long time stronghold of the party Front National.

Her family has Brazilian, Polish, German and Portuguese roots. She lost both parents at a young age and was left to navigate life with her five siblings. Yet, despite the hardships, Louane found a way to rise above her circumstances. At just 16, she became the youngest contestant in the second season of “The Voice France”, capturing hearts with her emotional rendition of John Lennon's “Imagine” a tribute to her recently deceased father. Her journey on the show took her to the semi-finals and propelled her to national fame.

Her talent caught the attention of director Éric Lartigau, who cast her in his film “La Famille Bélier” in 2014. The movie was a massive success, drawing over seven million viewers in France. For her heartfelt portrayal of Paula, Louane won both a César Award for Best Supporting Actress and a Prix Lumières.

In 2015, she made her mark in the music industry as well. Her debut album “Chambre 12”, soared to the top of the French charts, led by the anthem “Avenir” , which held the number one spot for weeks. The song also found international success, reaching number three (platinum) in Germany and even earning her recognition in South Korea.

What sets Louane apart is her ability to weave deeply personal stories into songs that resonate universally, blending elements of pop and chanson to create music that transcends borders.

The Song

Song: maman
Writer(s): Louane
Composer(s): Louane & Tristan Salvati
Broadcaster: France TV / FTV

Louane's French ESC entry “maman”, is a heartfelt tribute to her mother, whom she lost at a young age. Deeply personal and emotionally charged, the song stands apart from her previous hits.

She debuted “maman” during the halftime show of the rugby match between France and Scotland at the Stade de France, delivering a breath taking performance alongside a live orchestra. Unlike her chart-topping anthem “Avenir”, this song takes on a more reflective and intimate tone, deviating from the typical chanson style.

Much of its impact will depend on how Louane brings it to life on stage, making the performance a crucial element in conveying its depth and emotion.

I found love, indelible
You always know the real thing, even when time flies
When he holds my hand
I'm not afraid of anything anymore
And it makes me feel like before
When you held my hand.
