SRG SSR, the Swiss broadcaster, in collaboration with the EBU’s reference group, has finalized the running order for both semi-finals of the Eurovision Song Contest. In past years, the starting positions were determined by a random draw to ensure fairness. However, in recent editions, the host broadcaster has been given the authority to decide the line-up.
This change allows for a well-balanced show, ensuring a smooth alternation between ballads and up-tempo songs while also giving the production team enough time to set up staging and props. While some may perceive this as an unfair advantage, the running order is determined weeks in advance, giving country delegations ample time to plan their logistics accordingly.
Additionally, the Big 5 countries will now present their full performances within the semi-finals‘ running order, ensuring they receive more attention ahead of the grand final.
Iceland will kick off Semi-Final 1, while Cyprus will have the honour of closing the show. In Semi-Final 2, Australia will take the opening spot, with Finland bringing the night to an electrifying close. This strategic running order ensures an engaging mix of energy and variety throughout both semi-finals.

As one of the founders of eurovisionlive.com I am responsible for the interviews with the singers and the editorial content. My passion for the Eurovision Song Contest exists since my early childhood. The exotic music, different cultures and languages have given a lot of inspiration to me. Since my very first ESC in Dublin 1994 I particularly appreciate the get together and friendship of all the nationalities and Riverdance was a thrill!
