This week marked the first official occasion by the host broadcaster SRG SSR and the EBU to determine whether each country will participate in the first or second part of either Semi-Final 1 or 2. The event was hosted by Jennifer Bosshard and Jan van Ditzhuijzen and broadcast live from Basel, Switzerland. Nearly 30,000 people watched the show live on YouTube. Eurovision Executive Supervisor Martin Österdahl also accompanied the event.
The host insignia was also presented during the event, with the mayors of Malmö and Basel in attendance.
This year, five pots containing the names of participating countries were used to allocate the semi-finals. The grouping is based on voting patterns from the past 15 years to minimize the likelihood of neighbouring countries favouring each other.

As one of the founders of eurovisionlive.com I am responsible for the interviews with the singers and the editorial content. My passion for the Eurovision Song Contest exists since my early childhood. The exotic music, different cultures and languages have given a lot of inspiration to me. Since my very first ESC in Dublin 1994 I particularly appreciate the get together and friendship of all the nationalities and Riverdance was a thrill!
