This year will be the first year in ESC history that the motto does not change anymore. The EBU has decided to stick to the all uniting motto from last year “United by Music” for the upcoming years. On the other side the theme artwork can be changed every year, this is called “The Eurovision Lights” and refers to the Northern lights, which can be seen in the Northern hemisphere in winter time. With the power of music, uniting everyone under the same sky, to the same melody. This is what it’s going to be, with a lot of colours and moving parts:
Take a look at this year’s theme art:
According to the theme art the stage matched quite well, as the Swedish broadcaster SVT has announced the stage and lightening design. Responsible for this concept are Florian Wieder and Fredrik Stromby. Florian has designed seven ESC stage since 2011
For the first time in ESC history there will be a stage shaped like a cross surrounded by the viewers in the Malmö Arena and movable LED cubes and LED floors will present the latest technology. There will be spectacular variations like a 360-degree experience.
Ebba Adielsson, Executive Producer, said:
It is with great pride that we present our vision of the stage and lighting design for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. We have not seen anything like this before at Eurovision and the concept gives us endless opportunities to create unique spaces and expressions for both the competing artists and the opening and interval acts. Florian and Fredrik’s creation is simply fantastic and it will be so much fun to see the end result!’
Florian Wieder added:
‘I am so happy to be part of the Eurovision family again! Putting together an exceptional show is a team effort and I’m proud to be part of a dream team of professionals – just the right constellation of people to come up with something different and new. We all have the same vision of what this show should be and how to take Eurovision to the next level, and for me Sweden is always a guarantor of good music and entertainment.’
Fredrik went on to say:
‘We believe that together we have created what is an unexpected and updated concept for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 and are looking forward to showing it off for real! I am honoured to have been commissioned to design the light and video in collaboration with the team from our studio, and the production team that SVT has put into place for the project.
We’ve developed a strong concept together, and I’m really looking forward to the continued collaboration in production, the creative process with the delegations, and eventually getting my teeth into the show and doing the broadcasts!”

Due to the fact that my parents are musicians, I have a gained a great enthusiasm for music. Since 1979 my interest in the Eurovision Song Contest has grown enormously. My first ESC I joined was in Dublin 1995. Six years later I founded the website eurovisionlive.com in the year 2001. The most fascinating part for me is the original idea of the Eurovision Song Contest – the peaceful contest of the European countries. I am very happy that I have the chance to contribute my little part for the greatest music show in the world.
