Poland’s debut in 1994 was indeed remarkable, and Edyta Górniak‘s second place was a huge success for the country. However, Poland’s track record in the contest has been mixed. The country has failed to qualify for the final nine times, including in the last two years, but has also achieved several top 10 finishes, including two third places in 1997 and 2003. This year it’s going to be Poland’s 25th time in the ESC.

However, Poland’s track record in the contest has been mixed. The country has failed to qualify for the final nine times, including in the last two years, but has also achieved several top 10 finishes, including two third places in 1997 and 2003.

Unfortunately, this strong performance of Poland could not be maintained over all those years until today. Poland’s contributions in the first years were quite extraordinary and special in particular as they have tried to find their position with offbeat compositions. The effort of the Polish composers and performers to develop Poland as a new highlight in the ESC has paid off. But some of the songs might have been too complicated for the average European music taste. That’s why the Polish entries struggled and still do struggle with the qualification for the Grand Finals recently.

Poland has already shown that it can successfully host international events, including the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. This experience could be beneficial if Poland decides to bid for hosting the main Eurovision Song Contest in the future.
