The highly anticipated grand final of Sweden’s Melodifestivalen reaches its thrilling climax tonight. Over the past six weeks, 12 finalists have secured their spots through five live shows held across the country.
Among the favourites is Måns Zelmerlöw, the Eurovision 2015 winner from Vienna with Heroes (watch here) , and John Lundvik, who represented Sweden in Tel Aviv 2019 and achieved an impressive 5th place with „Too Late For Love“ (watch here).
As Sweden prepares to choose its representative for Eurovision in Basel this May, two acts stand out: Måns Zelmerlöw and the Finnish group KAJ, which is competing with a song in Swedish. Betting odds favour Måns with a 58% chance of winning, while KAJ follows with 24%. However, YouTube statistics tell a different story—KAJ has amassed 2.8 million views and 34,857 likes, far surpassing Måns’ 909,000 views and 11,299 likes. Could this indicate an upset in the making?
Sweden is renowned for its exceptional stage productions and cutting-edge performances, and tonight’s show promises to deliver a mix of diverse songs with varying quality levels. Many people feel that the songs in Melodifestivalen tend to sound alike, almost like mass-produced goods. However, Sweden remains one of the most successful music-producing nations in the world, often showcasing more creativity than many larger countries.
The winner will be determined through a 50/50 voting system, with eight international juries accounting for half the votes and the public vote making up the rest. Hosting the event at the Strawberry Arena in Solna (just outside Stockholm) are Kristina „Keyyo“ Petrushina and Edvin Törblom.
With so much at stake, tonight is set to be an electrifying evening—will the favourite triumph, or are we in for a surprise? Stay tuned!
The final night of the Melodifestivalen can be watched at 20.00 CET.

As one of the founders of eurovisionlive.com I am responsible for the interviews with the singers and the editorial content. My passion for the Eurovision Song Contest exists since my early childhood. The exotic music, different cultures and languages have given a lot of inspiration to me. Since my very first ESC in Dublin 1994 I particularly appreciate the get together and friendship of all the nationalities and Riverdance was a thrill!
