Biography of Mimicat
Marisa Isabel Lopes Mena, also known by her stage name Mimicat, is a talented singer, composer and songwriter from Portugal, specializing in pop and soul music. Her big dream will come true to represent Portugal in the highly anticipated Eurovision Song Contest 2023. In Portugal Mimicat is also known as “Amy Winehouse from Tejo”, a flattery allusion to her great voice.
Mimicat's journey to the Eurovision stage began when she participated in Festival da Canção 2001 under the name Izamena. Although she showcased her musical abilities with the song "Mundo Colorido", she did not make it past the semi-finals. However, her passion for music never wavered, and she continued to hone her craft over the years. This is another example of Mimicat’s current music: “Tudo oa Ar”.
Fast forward to 2023, Mimicat made a stunning comeback to the Festival da Canção stage, this time as Mimicat, with her song "Ai Coração" which means “Oh, heart”. She delivered a captivating performance in the first semi-final and advanced to the final, where she clinched the coveted first place. There was a tight race, as the jury has given the same amount of points to the runner-up, at the end the votes from the televoting paved the way to the first place.

The song "Ai Coração” has been composed by Mimicat together with Luís Pereira. It’s a very rhythmic and energetic song in the cabaret style of the 1960’s, which is about the torments of the heart in love. The 34-years-old singer is also inspired by Ella Fitzgerald and Ray Charles, which can be noticed in this composition. With the interesting choreography from the Festival da Canção, she will definitely leave a lasting impression in Liverpool.
Mimicat's incredible talent and hard work have paid off, as she is now set to represent her country on the biggest music stage in Europe.
