The decision on the host city for the 69th Eurovision Song Contest took some time. Zurich withdrew its application weeks ago, leaving Geneva and Basel as the final contenders. In the end, Basel emerged as the winner, meeting all the key criteria, including safety, accommodations, and facilities. The Swiss broadcaster SRG SSR made the final selection.
Today, the EBU officially announced Basel as the host city for the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest. The event will take place at St. Jakobshalle, with the semi-finals scheduled for May 13th and 15th, followed by the Grand Final on May 17th.
Given the high hotel prices in Basel, it’s worth noting that the city is very close to both France and Germany. Crossing the border could offer more affordable accommodation options.
This will be Switzerland’s third time hosting the famous Eurovision Song Contest. Lugano was the very first host city in 1956, followed by Lausanne in 1989. Now, 35 years later, Basel will take the stage as the host city in 2025.

As one of the founders of eurovisionlive.com I am responsible for the interviews with the singers and the editorial content. My passion for the Eurovision Song Contest exists since my early childhood. The exotic music, different cultures and languages have given a lot of inspiration to me. Since my very first ESC in Dublin 1994 I particularly appreciate the get together and friendship of all the nationalities and Riverdance was a thrill!
