After two semi-finals, the Grand Final of Iceland’s national competition, Söngvakeppnin (English: „Singing Competition“), is set to determine the country’s entry for the 37th Eurovision Song Contest. Over the past two years, Iceland hasn’t had much luck, as entries from Diljiá and Hera Björk failed to reach the Grand Final. Will this year bring a change?
Out of 110 songs submitted, a panel of Icelandic musicians, composers, and lyricists selected 10 finalists. Each of the two semi-finals featured five songs, with the top three from each advancing to the Grand Final. The show will be hosted by Benedikt Valsson, Guðrún Dís Emilsdóttir, and Fannar Sveinsson. Voting will be split 50/50 between the jury and the public.
In addition to the competition songs, several special guests have been announced. Herra Hnetusmjör will open the show, while Hera Björk (Iceland’s Eurovision representatives in 2010 and 2024), Käärijä (Finland’s Eurovision representative in 2023), and Swedish electronic duo Hooja will perform during the interval.
You can watch the Icelandic final Söngvakeppnin at 20.45 CET, 22 February 2025

As one of the founders of eurovisionlive.com I am responsible for the interviews with the singers and the editorial content. My passion for the Eurovision Song Contest exists since my early childhood. The exotic music, different cultures and languages have given a lot of inspiration to me. Since my very first ESC in Dublin 1994 I particularly appreciate the get together and friendship of all the nationalities and Riverdance was a thrill!
