The show was a real good entertainment and has shown a lot of creativity and traditional Ukrainian elements. Last year’s winner Jamala has presented her winning song “1944” in a special orchestral version and later on her new song. Verka Seduchka, the 2007 representative was a real highlight of the first show.
Ten of the 18 participants made the race for the Grand Final, for the remaining eight the ESC journey is over. The big surprise of the night is that Belgium made it into the final. The performance was the weakest of the night, but the fan favourite and the good placing in the bets have brought Blanche through. The best stages had Australia, Finland, Portugal and Armenia. A great success is to see Portugal back in the Grand Final. Salvador has not been able to rehearse in the first week and he was replaced by his sister Luisa perfectly. He belongs to one of the big favourites this year with his soulful and touching ballad.
There were not enough points to get through to the Grand Final for Georgia, Albania, Montenegro, Finland, Iceland, Czech Republic, Slovenia and Latvia. For the non-qualifiers it was of course a disappointment that their country has not been announce. In particular Omar Naber from Slovenia, who did not make it to the final in Kiev 2005, he could not fulfil his dream to make it better this time. The band Norma John from Finland was also treated as a kind of dark horse this year, but their song was probably too sad to convince. And of course for all the others who did not make it into the final, dreams will be destroyed.

My passion for the Eurovision Song Contest exists since my early childhood. The exotic music, different cultures and languages have given a lot of inspiration to me. Since my very first ESC in Dublin 1994 I particularly appreciate the get together and friendship of all the nationalities and Riverdance was a thrill!
