It has been the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest. Due to this special event, the Icelandic broadcaster RUV has invited almost the entire Icelandic Eurovision celebrity to emphasize the importance of this event for the country.
The opening showed a great reprise of the most of the Icelandic entries from three decades, all ending with the most important song: “Gledinbankin”, the very first Icelandic song from 1986.

As special guests there were Sandra Kim from Belgium, who sang “J’aime la vie” another time in a 90’s techno-version. She was the winner of 1986, the year when Iceland debuted. And later one there was Loreen, singing her “Euphoria” in a very special version. Loreen has been to Iceland before and loves that country.

Out of six finalists, Greta Salóme could convince the Icelanders with the song “Hear Them Calling”. She has written the text and music on her own. In the super final together with Alda Dís Arnardóttir and the song “Now”, Greta received the majority of SMS votes and hence won the 30th edition of the show Söngvakeppnin. Greta has already participated together with Jónsi with “Never Forget”, who made 20th place in Baku 2012.
“Hear Them Calling” is an ultra-modern song, with a catchy melody and furthermore Greta’s performance reminds a bit of Loreen’s from 2012. Greta is using a projection wall with green and dark colours, a wind machine and a feather-like outfit with waving hair.
