For the 32nd time Turkey is going to participated in the Eurovision Song Contest. Indeed the Turkish entries have not been taken very seriously in the 80’s and 90’s. With breaking down the language barrier it has opened the interest in Turkish music. Who could have even imagined in the 80’s that Turkey would be among the favorites year by year in the Millennium years? Many 4th ranks even in the last 6 years three times! Not to forget the great victory “Everyway that I can” by Sertab Enerer in 2003. The Turkish have deserved such a victory and they have proved that they are ESC enthusiasts from the finest, hosting a gorgeous show in 2004 in Istanbul with a very exotic – Turkish charm. There have always been huge Turkish stars representing Turkey in the ESC like MFÖ, Kenan Dogulu, Mor ve Ötesi or Hadise last year.
This year there is another super star from Turkey: maNga! They have won this year’s MTV award already and are popular all around Europe with a more progressive music style. The Turkish TV station TRT has determined this group without having a pre decision, over the last years TRT might have a good hand in choosing the appropriate entry. The song “We could be the same” is a modern pop / rock tune which could be played in any radio station. This is good for gaining the younger audience, but nothing for the elderly people.
