Participant: Sahlene Song: Runaway Writer(s): Jana Hallas Composer(s): Pearu Paulus, Ilmar Laisaar & Alar Kotkas
The Swedish singer Sahlene will sing for Estonia this year. Normally, only the composer and the lyricist must come from the participating country. In the history of the Eurovision there were lots of singers from different countries, who were "bought" by others. We all remember Céline Dion from Canada, who sang for Switzerland in 1988 and won.
As a child Sahlene appeared in the classical childrens fairytales "The children of Bullerbue" by Astrid Lindgren. Later she moved to Stockholm and made her carreer as a lead singer of the band "Rhythm Avenue". She toured throughout Sweden and Japan. She also was a background singer of Carola and Eric Gadd.
Her love to the Eurovision exists since her childhood. As a 7-years-old child she was imitating her favourite singer Carola 1983 with a dress like her. In 1999 she made it as a background singer of Charlotte Nilsson in Jeruslam with a big success - they won the contest!
Sahlene doesn't care about the result and how many points she receives - but for sure she will get the 12 points from Sweden!
She will be happy, if Estonia is among the top 5.
Generally the hosting countries of the Eurovision end up quite satisfactory, so the chances for Estonia are quite high. The composers are the same as in 2000, where Ines sang "Once in a lifetime" and got 4th!
