The bitter news that this year won’t be the Eurovision Song Contest has been a logical consequence. There have discussed various options, how the ESC could take place, without audience, as video contest or via live transmission with all the performers in the participating countries. Due to the complete cancellation for the host city of Rotterdam, this might be another chance in 2021 to host it again with new songs.

But what’s about the scheduled 16th May? This spot is being saved in many countries for the Eurovision Song Contest. Some broadcasters have developed their own ideas to show something with the Eurovision theme like Germany (hostes by Conchita Wurst) and the UK, Austria is broadcasting a “Little Song Contest”, where former Austrian performers have the right to vote for their favourites from 2020.
But the Dutch broadcasters NPO, NOS and Avrotros are working on an own concept. There will be a show called “Europe Shine A Light” presented by the same hosts, as for the ESC: Chantal Janzen, Edsilia Rombley and Jan Smit. It’s planned to give all of this year’s set participants a chance to shine and present their entries, but not in full length. There will be no voting, but at least there is something to fulfil the gap of this year.
