The virus has spread out in almost every country from Peru to Iceland and from USA to Australia. Unfortunately, Europe is massively affected and it is advised to deny social contacts in person.
A lot of events have been cancelled: sport events, concerts, theatres, etc. even the Danish national final was held without audience. In seven weeks the ESC in Rotterdam should have started with the rehearsals, 41 delegations should have been expected and more than 1500 journalists have been planning their trips to Rotterdam.
Now it seems that a regular ESC is not possible. In the last official statement they are waiting and see how the development is continuing. Under these circumstances a Eurovision Song Contest seems to be unrealistic, how should the performers all travel to Rotterdam, when the borders are closed? Is this arguable to arrange such a big event while the European citizens are in danger and fear?
There are alternatives like, postponing the entire event to 2021, ESC without audience, a live wiring where the singers perform in their own countries, a video contest, etc. But in consideration of the current situation and the increasing restrictions it’s more than unlikely. Even if there will be high costs, but the most important thing in the moment is the health of everybody.
