Slovenia
EMA Evrovizijska Melodija is the traditional Slovenian national final every year. In advance there was an online contest called EMA Freš, a format to find two wildcard for the final, songs had to duel over five weeks. In the first TV show two wildcard winners have been determined for the Grand Final. There has been a first elimination show to find to wildcards for the final. This year we also find a former Slovenian representative Tinkara Kovač, who made a 26th place in Copenhagen with “Round and Round”. Altogether there will be 12 participants tonight, a super final with the two best songs will also be part of the show.
Ukraine
The national final in the Ukraine is called “Vidbir” and is the last of three shows with six finalist. Last year Ukraine had a scandal as the winning performance “Siren Song” by Maruk could not go to Tel Aviv due to unfair conditions with the broadcaster and the singer, she also should have cancelled her live shows in Russia.
In this year’s jury there are Andriy Danylko (alias Verka Serduchka), Tina Karol (represented Ukraine in 2006) and Vitaly Drozdov.
Poland
The Polish national final is approaching, after three semi finals with 7 participants each performing cover songs, three finalist have been determined by a jury, by former Polish representatives: Michal Szpak, Cleo and Groomee and public voting. In Sunday’s Grand Final there will be three finalists and a wildcard winner. One finalist is Albert Černý, who sang with the group Lake Malawi for the Czech Republic last year “Friend of a Friend” and made an 11th rank.
Sweden
This will be the fourth and last semi final in the Swedish Melodifestivalen. Then there will be two more shows, the second chance show “Andra Chansen” and the Grand Final. The most familiar names of tonight’s show are: Nanne Grönvall, she represented Sweden in 1996 with the group One More Time and “Den Vilda”, 3rd place . The other one is Victor Crone, who represented Estonia last year with “Storm” and reached a 19th place in the final.
Portugal
The traditional Festival da Canção with 16 participants will take place in three shows: two semi finals with eight participants each and a Grand Final on 7 March with 8 finalists. Among this year’s singers there is no former Portuguese representant. The shows will take place in the RTP Studio in Lisbon there will be 50% jury and 50% public voting.
