Tamara Todevska was born in Skopje in 1985 and raised in a musical family. Her father is a professor in a music school and her mother is an opera singer. Tamara’s sister Tijana has also represented FYR Macedonia with song “To The Sky” back in Copenhagen 2014 and made a 13th place in the Semi Final. So all the best preconditions for Tamara.

The North Macedonian broadcaster MRKTV has made an internal choice to determine the Eurovision representative. And Tamara Todevska is the lucky one, who can show the North Macedonian colours in Tel Aviv. Her song is called “Proud”.
Tamara is not a new face at the Eurovision Song Contest. She has already represented her country in the ESC 2008 in Belgrade together with Rade Vrčakovski and Adrian and the song “Let Me Love You” and made an 11th place in the Semi Final. So this is a valuable experience for Tamara from which she can profit from.

Together Tamara and Tijana took part in the Skopje Fest 1997 with “Igra luda” . Tamara’s breakthrough came in 2003 when she sang “1003” at the Montenegrin Festival Suncane Skale, where she made the second place. In 2007 Tamara entered the Skopje Fest again, at that time it was the national final for the ESC. With the song “Kazi Koj Si Ti” she made a brilliant second place as well. Tamara has released two albums and various singles.
The Eurovision entry from North Macedonia is called “Proud”. The song is about faith and self-consciousness as a young girl, believe in you and be proud. This is probably a clever message nowadays with the #MeToo debate. The video clip is simple but it exactly emphasises the message of the song. Even her sister Tijana appears in it.
They will try to tell you what to do
Have no fear, the power lies in you
Shine your light, go and break the rules”
This emotional ballad will definitely stand out of the others and is a very good chance to be seen in the Grand Final with high potential. This is probably the best chance ever for North Macedonia.
Finals: 8 (5 since 2004)

The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) is participating for the 19th time this year in Tel Aviv, but due to a name change of the country it’s now called North Macedonia. The debut entry “Ne Zori, Zoro” by Vlado Janevski in 1998 came 19th in the final in Birmingham. It was great to see that the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia has joined the Eurovision family as well.
The former Yugoslavia took part 27 times and the debut was made in 1961 and there was one victory in 1989 with the group Riva and “Rock Me”.
In the first years from 2004 the former FYR Macedonia always qualified for the final. This was also due to the fact that the neighbour countries helped with their votes. But this has changed, since 2008 the former FYR Macedonia did not make it to the final anymore, but the lovely singer Kaliopi could change this in 2012. She was the first one to reach the final again with “Crno I Belo”, she even reached the 13th place in the Grand Final in Baku. The reason for the non-qualifying years had probably more to do with songs which were not preliminary made for an international audience and therefore did not met the European taste. Unfortunately, the former FYR Macedonia has been struggling with the qualification for the Grand Final since 2013 – six years in a row no final.

About me: My first Eurovision I watched was in 1987, Brussels. Since then I am following the ESC with great enthusiasm. The greatest fascination for me is the fact that the entire Europe is watching the show at that specific night. Since 2010, Oslo I am a member of the eurovisionlive.com team. I had the chance to witness the second German victory with Lena. My biggest wish would be to have the orchestra back, as it used to be until 1998.
