Since a couple of years Eurovision singers from the current year do have the chance to meet in Amsterdam and join a concert. This year there were 28 countries gathered together in the AFAS Arena in Amsterdam to perform their Eurovision entries in front of an enthused audience. This event has been seen as indicator for the big show at Eurovision itself. A couple of other event will follow such as London and Madrid.
On the day of the event the participants were welcomed by the press in a special room inside the arena, where everybody was walking on the catwalk toward the stage. Later on the performers had two hours to give interviews for the journalist of the different media, a bit too short time to talk to all the singers. Maybe the location was a bit suboptimal for doing interviews due to the lack of light and space. Furthermore, Getty the lead singer of the Dutch band Teach-In “Ding-A-Dong” #1 in Stockholm 1975 presented her biography. Luckily, she talked to eurovisionlive.com about her experiences from winning Eurovision.
At the concert itself the artists gave a first impression on what to expect in Tel Aviv. There were surprised like the Polish group which had one of the strongest performances of the evening. The highly favorited Swiss singer Luca Hänni did not hit every tone correctly. It must be taken into consideration that this stage performances cannot be compared to the one we are going to expect in Tel Aviv. The stage in Amsterdam is plain and there is a straightforward video presentation at the wall. Also the sound and effects are not comparable. Even if this concert is a first indicator how sympathetic the singers are, conclusions should not be taken too early.
As special guests, former ESC winner Nicole and Dana International entertained the crowd.
