By now it’s still unclear, where the upcoming ESC will take place. Neither the host city is being confirmed nor the event itself. There seems to be a big financial issue of the host broadcaster KAN and the Israeli government. The amount of 24 million Euro should be taken as a guarantee that the contest can take place next year. There is also a bond of 12 million Euro to be paid to the EBU. Right now it does not seem that there is a solution out there and if the government gives in. Accordingly KAN should pay the money out of the funds or to apply for a credit.
The new broadcaster KAN has just been formed in May 2017. It’s the replacement of the former IBA (Israel broadcasting association).
As speculated before an alternative would be to host the 2019 contest in the runner up country Cyprus, or even Austria (3rd place). The big question is if it’s not too late for letting the contest taking place in another country. In former years there was always a country which was eager to host it if a country had to deny the contest.
