This year the red carpet has been a blue one. This is being made due to close location to the Atlantic Ocean and the maritime motto of this year’s event. The blue carpet took place in front of the MAAT museum, Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology. The setting was stunning, in front of the pittoresque “Ponte 25 de Abril” bridge and the National Shrine of Christ the King, and many tall ships passed by.

For the first time in Eurovision history a red carpet has been introduced in Oslo 2010. This has been invented to give more glamour to the participants, and it has become a yearly top event á la Hollywood since then.

This is now the place to show off for everybody: it is the chance to have a look at the artists in their finest clothes, or sometime crazy clothes. Most of the delegations are in a good mood start spontaneous singing and doing cartwheels on the carpet, some bring their dogs or best friends.

The temperatures were quite high with 27°C and a bright sun made it quite demanding for all people involved, especially for those who worn suits and evening wear.

Nevertheless it has been a great opportunity to meet all participants of this year in one flow. Some delegations really took their time and spoke to the most of the interested media, others just ran away like the French singers.

After the walk on the blue carpet the artists have been welcomed by the EBU supervisor Jan Ola Sand and the president of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
