Compared to the previous stage planning the upcoming plans for the stage in Lisbon 2018 have been revealed very early. The Portuguese broadcaster RTP has now communicated the design of the ESC stage, which has been designed by Florian Wieder. This designer has already been in charge for several times like Düsseldorf 2011, Baku 2012, Vienna 2015 and Kiev 2017.

The combination of the maritime look and feel of the motto “All Aboard” and oceanic artwork, the stage is logic complement. The Portuguese are known for their maritime life, strongly connected with all aspects of the sea: shipbuilding, expedition and cultural openness.
There will be four main attributes to be found on stage: navigation, the sea, ships and maps. The key element will be an armillary sphere. This classic navigation instrument has been in use since the middle of the 15th century. Rotating rings of metal will surround the entire stage.
The Executive Supervisor of the ESC, Jon Ola Sand said "As with the logos and slogan for the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest, the stage design draws from the inspiration of Portugal’s history and of the Ocean very well. It will create a very distinctive look and feel for this year’s performers, and we look forward to seeing this intricate and modern set up in action next May."
