Last week one of the Baccara singers Maria Mendiola has died in the age of 69. With “Yes Sir, I can Boogie” the Spanish duo has started their career in 1977, song became a smash hit all around the world in the 1970’s. Further songs like “Sorry, I’m a Lady” or “Ay Ay Sailor” became hits. One year later Baccara participated in the 1978 Eurovision Song Contest in Paris with the song “Parlez-vous français” for Luxembourg. They reached a great 7th place. The duo has split up in 1982 and the new singer Paloma Blanco replaces Maria. They even participated in the Swedish national final “Melodifestivalen” in 2004 with “Soy tu Venus” The Eurovision world has lost another lovely and valuable participant.
