It has been a very exciting final in Rotterdam. So many good songs and performances, but at the end it could only be one winner. Italy has mainly won with the public votes from the TV viewers. Congratulations Italy! This is the third time in the Eurovision history that Italy made the first place. So the 66th Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Italy.
The band Måneskin have won the San Remo Festival already and now the Eurovision Song Contest, they gained a huge fan-base all over Europe.
During the jury voting Switzerland and France received the majority of the points, while Italy was only in the Top 10. The United Kingdom came last with 0 points, unfortunately, the public had not given a single point neither. The big pity was to witness that four countries from the already qualified countries: Germany, Spain, United Kingdom and the host country did not match the taste of the public viewers – they all received zero points. This was even hard for the hosts Chantal and Jan to say that the host country receive zero points. This is a phenomenon which we have described a couple of times that host countries shape up badly.
The highly promoted entry from San Marino came only 22nd and Sweden, which has been in the Top 10 normally, only made the 14th place. Malta was also favoured, but only get a few public votes, as well as the Lithuanian band The Roop, who have been handled as possible winners already, especially last year.
The surprise of the night has been that two French songs made it in the top 3, Iceland made a great 4th place, even if they could not be live on stage, and Ukraine made a respectable 5th place, even the hard rockers from Finland came 6th.
Italy has won with a margin from only 25 points ahead to France. It’s great to see that four classic Eurovision countries placed on the top four places.
This is the final result:
We wish the Italian band Måneskin all the best, good success with the song “Zitti e buoni”, which means “Shut Up And Go”. Also congratulations to Barbara Pravi from France for the great second place and Gjon’s Tears from Switzerland for the third place. See you next year in Italy!
