The lovely singer VICTORIA has been chosen to represent Bulgaria last year. Due to the cancellation of the ESC, she has been directly set for 2021. Her song “Tears Getting Sober” from 2020 was handled among the favourites, a beautiful ballad with a lot of thoughtfulness. This year, the chances are equally high.
VICTORIA, whose real name is Wiktorija Georgiewa was born in Varna in 1997. In the age of eleven she started to sing and joined a choir. In the year 2011 she urgently wanted to take part in the X Factor Bulgaria show, but she was not successful. She needed three more attempts to come into the live shows in 2015. Have a look at her performance
In 2016 VICTORIA signed her first record contract. Nowadays she is one of the most hopeful singers in her country.
These video clips of her songs are worth to watch:
This year’s song “Growing Up Is Getting Old” is another beautiful ballad with a strong message, a journey back to your roots, where you felt safe and protected. Judging by the video clip, VICTORIA is seeing herself as a child, embracing her inner child.
Growing up is getting old Don't get it, there's an ocean of emotion that I'm carrying inside I am cautious, Cause I've never understood how so much can fit in little me Star crossed soul
It all depends on the live staging, how this message will be delivered. The dreamy ballad does not need a big stage show, just a piano and a nice dark background. There is a lot of emotion and depth, with the wonderful voice of VICTORIA, we will see this great song among the top ranks this year.
Top 10: 3
Chances for Top 10 placing: 23%
Chances for Final: 31%
For Bulgaria it’s the 13th time in the Eurovision Song Contest, due to the fact that the ESC 2020 has been cancelled, that year will not be taken into account.
Recently Bulgaria has developed a really good and successful way. Since 2016 Bulgaria could always reach the Grand Finals and made one 2nd and one 4th place. That’s an impressive upgrading in music quality and singing.
The Bulgarian debut entry “Lorraine” by Kaffe was a wonderful song and unfortunately this entry has not qualified for the Grand Final in Kiev. Since then Bulgaria is mostly trying to participate but paused 2014 - 2015. The neighbour country Romania has already joined the ESC family in 1994.
The biggest success so far was the performance of Kristian Kostov with “Beautiful Mess” – a great entry, which was very close to victory as never before, at the end Kristian made a very good 2nd place. The year before Poli Genova made a 4th place in Stockholm. And not to forget the extraordinary percussion performance “Water” by Elitsa Todorova & Stoyan Yankulov in Helsinki 2007, they made a great 5th place.
Bulgarian entries showed different music styles over the years. Unfortunately, not all songs matched the European taste. If there is an international production like in the last years, the chances for a good placing are a lot higher.

About me: As one of the founders of eurovisionlive.com I am responsible for the interviews with the singers and the editorial content. My passion for the Eurovision Song Contest exists since my early childhood. The exotic music, different cultures and languages have given a lot of inspiration to me. Since my very first ESC in Dublin 1994 I particularly appreciate the get together and friendship of all the nationalities and Riverdance was a thrill!
