In a live YouTube presentation the Dutch song has been revealed. The singer Jeangu Macrooy is the same as last year, when the contest had to be cancelled. Luckily the broadcaster AVROTROS directly nominated Jeangu to get another chance this year.
The song “Birth Of A New Age” is a gospel song, with a choir, a totally different style compared to last year’s song “Grow”. According to the Eurovision rules, there are no more than six people allowed on stage. The song also includes Surinamese phrases to link to Jeangu’s home country.
The expectations of the host country’s entry are always quite high as it also be qualified for the Grand Final and it will receive the maximum amount of viewers on a Saturday night. But this is not a guarantee that there will be many points. The history shows that even in the last years a host entry can end up last like in Portugal or Austria lately.
This is the Dutch entry 2021:
Editor in Chief of eurovisionlive.com
About me: Due to the fact that my parents are musicians, I have a gained a great enthusiasm for music. Since 1979 my interest in the Eurovision Song Contest has grown enormously. My first ESC I joined was in Dublin 1995. Six years later I founded the website eurovisionlive.com in the year 2001. The most fascinating part for me is the original idea of the Eurovision Song Contest – the peaceful contest of the European countries. I am very happy that I have the chance to contribute my little part for the greatest music show in the world.
