Austria has done it again! With an unforgettable performance of the stirring ballad “Waited Love”, JJ has secured Austria’s third victory at the Eurovision Song Contest, following the legendary Udo Jürgens in 1966 and global icon Conchita Wurst in 2014.
Held in Basel, the 2025 Grand Final proved to be a night full of surprises, emotion, and stark contrasts — particularly between the jury votes and the public televote. Austria triumphed with a total of 436 points, comfortably outpacing its nearest rivals Israel (357 points) and Estonia (356 points).
A Night of Contrasts
While JJ’s powerful performance earned both critical and public acclaim, the same couldn’t be said for everyone. The United Kingdom and the host country Switzerland failed to gain any points from the public vote, a striking outcome that left many fans and commentators stunned. Despite Switzerland placing 10th overall with 214 points, its position relied heavily on jury support.
In contrast, acts like Israel and Estonia saw major boosts from televoters, helping push them into the top three.
No Céline, But a Touching Swiss Tribute
Hopes were high that Céline Dion, Switzerland’s most iconic Eurovision winner (1988), might make a surprise appearance — but it wasn’t to be. Instead, the host country delivered a heart-warming medley tribute to its Eurovision history, featuring former representatives like Peter, Sue & Marc, Paola, Luca Hänni, and Gjon’s Tears. The nostalgic performance was warmly received by the arena audience and viewers at home.

What’s Next?
With this third win, Austria joins the elite club of multiple-time winners and will likely host the contest in 2026. Speculation is already mounting about potential host cities, with Vienna and Graz among the early favourites.
As the curtain falls on another spectacular Eurovision season, one thing is certain: JJ’s “Waited Love” will echo far beyond Basel, marking a triumphant new chapter in Austria’s Eurovision story.
See you next year in Austria!

As one of the founders of eurovisionlive.com I am responsible for the interviews with the singers and the editorial content. My passion for the Eurovision Song Contest exists since my early childhood. The exotic music, different cultures and languages have given a lot of inspiration to me. Since my very first ESC in Dublin 1994 I particularly appreciate the get together and friendship of all the nationalities and Riverdance was a thrill!
