Due to the local press the hotel nights have increased by 26% in May 2011, compared the same period the year before. The main reason is the Eurovision Song Contest which brought a lot of foreign guests to the city of Düsseldorf. In fact there has also been a shortage of hotel rooms. The visitors had to pay quite high prices for a single hotel night. Even the neighbour cities have increased their hotel prices, thanks to many locals who offered private rooms for visitors. The ESC brings more economical increase than many people may believe. Last year there were 43 international delegations, consisting of sometimes 50 people or even more, more than 2000 journalists and many more fans. Just imagine that there were three live shows with at least 35.000 people inside, they all pay a lot for lodging, eating and entertainment. So maybe that’s a good sign for the city of Baku this year to expect many people who are willing to spend their money in the city. For all the visitors it’s going to be a quite expensive experience. |
