Sweden to win the Eurovision Song Contest 2012

Loreen from Sweden has won the 57^th Eurovision Song Contest in Baku, Azerbaijan. With an electrifying and contemporary song called “Euphoria” Loreen has bewitched the Europeans. Her stage show was unique and will certainly become one of the most outstanding contributions, ever seen at Eurovision. Sweden has won the contest four times so far: 1974 with “Waterloo” by ABBA, 1984 with “Diggo-Loo-Diggi-Ley” by The Herrey’s, 1991 with “Fangad i en stormvind” by Carola and 1999 with “Tusen och en natt” by Charlotte Nilsson. So now this is the fifth victory for Sweden! Congratulations!

This has been a very exciting evening, a great show, everything went smoothly. The nervousness of the singers was obviously and the tension could be felt in front of every television. The voting procedure has been exciting as well, at a certain point it was clear that Sweden is going to make it, as there were always points given to Sweden by all countries and the margin was getting larger with every country vote. At the end Sweden won with 372 points, a margin of 113 points! 18 times Sweden received the full marks of 12 points. Russia came 2^nd with 259 points and Serbia came 3^rd with 214 points. In the beginning the typical countries lead the competition like Turkey, Greece, Russia and Serbia, but at the end other countries also gained points. The host country Azerbaijan made a good 4^th rank. It’s a very good result for Albania a 5^th place, the highest rank ever. Also Estonia was very successful and came 6th. Unfortunately, some other countries were suffering from only a few points like Norway, which came last, Engelbert from the UK received only 12 points and came second last – a drama for the UK. But there is no country with zero points.

Like no other country Sweden is so eager in competing in this contest so in a way they deserved another victory. After 13 years Sweden brought the crown back to one of the most successful countries in Eurovision, only Ireland has won seven times and the United Kingdom has also five victories so far.

Sweden has one of the highest viewing figures each in the national final as in the international competition. This new victory will bring this country to another level and they will have a ball tonight. The EBU executive supervisor Jan Ola Sand has officially handed over the papers with important advices to the Swedish delegation, as Sweden will host the next ESC in 2013.

This victory will also be having a very positive effect, as “Euphoria” is already in the charts in several countries. This is a modern song which might be a hit all over Europe or even beyond and an international career can be started. That’s what Eurovision needs! Heja Sverige!
