San Marino 2011

San Marino Participant(s): Senit
Song: Stand By
Writer(s): Radiosa Romani
Composer(s): Radiosa Romani

Senit San Marino has only taken part once in the Eurovision Song Contest, so this year it will be the second try for that tiny country with only 31.000 inhabitants. In 2008 San Marino firstly entered the contest with a gorgeous entry called “Complice” by Miodio, which surprisingly did not pass the semi final. The participating countries must promise that they are able to host the contest in an eventual victory. So it is the question if such a small country has an arena and the hotel infrastructure for such a mega event. In history, Luxembourg, Monaco and Andorra took part as well, and Luxembourg has hosted the contest several times. In case of a victory, a bigger neighbour city in a neighbour country could also host the event, for San Marino it could be Florence or Bologna, the hometown of this year’s singer Senit.

She has also Eritrean roots, but grew up in Italy. Senit has been singing in several musicals like Fame, Hair and The Lion King. The video clip has been filmed in San Marino itself and this gives a good impression of what to expect in this beautiful country. The soft rock ballad is interpreted in a very contemporary way by Senit, a nice song with a wonderful melody. For the first time in history San Marino, Malta and Italy take part in the contest altogether. Unfortunately, Italy is not allowed to vote in the first semi final, so San Marino has to pass the semi final without that help. Nevertheless, the song has an international format, a beautiful singer and a memorable chorus. If she is great on the Düsseldorf stage, she will be in the final for sure.
