Russia has joined the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 with the debut song “Vechni Stranik” performed by Youddiph, who came 9th. This year it’s going to be the 15th participation of the biggest country of Europe. In some years there were national finals and in others there was an internal decision of the Russian TV, like this year. Nevertheless, the Russian entries have all been qualifying for the final and received always a good amount of points, the worst position has been #17. Who could have ever imagined that from the beginning in 1994, Russia has developed as one of the most successful countries of the recent years? There were really contemporary songs, which were sometimes more modern than the entries from the classical participants like the UK, France, Spain, Germany, etc. Remember the songs “Ne Ver, Ne Boisia” by t.A.T.u (#3) in 2003, “Never Let You Go” by Dima Bilan (#2) in 2006 and “Song #1” by Serebro (#3) in 2007. One year later, Dima Bilan could bring the crown of Eurovision to Russia for the first time with “Believe”. The 2009 ESC in Moscow had the largest stage in history and Russia showed the world an impressive and international show the world hasn’t seen before.
This year Russia is playing another ace. The popular singer Alex Vorobjov has been chosen by Channel 1 Russia to be the representative in Düsseldorf. One of the composers is also very famous “Redone” is the house producer of Lady Gaga, he has also composed songs for Enrique Iglesias, Jennifer Lopez and the Backstreet Boys. The up-tempo song “Get you”, sung by the sympathetic singer Alex is also a very modern and up to date song, which can easily be played in the radio. Russia has always been qualifying for the final, and so they will do this year. Songs like this Russian entry bring a certain “younger feeling” into the ESC, which will probably attract younger viewers very much.
