Poli Genova Bulgaria is taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest since 2005. The Balkan country has been waiting quite a long time before entering, while the neighbor country Romania has joined in 1994 already. The Bulgarian debut entry “Lorraine” by Kaffe (#19) has not reached the final in that year unfortunately. Nevertheless, it’s a big plus to have Bulgaria in the competition as well; it brings another spice into the contest, even if the Bulgarians only could qualify once for final with “Water” by Elitsa Todorova & Stoyan Yankulov (#5) in 2007. Bulgaria is a good example that the music taste in the different countries can vary a lot. The presentation on stage and accompanied with the style of the Bulgarian songs is very special, but certainly does not hit everybody’s taste: weird costumes, fire, dramatic voices and shows. But this is exactly what it makes fun to watch Eurovision, if every entry in the ESC would do the same it’s like watching MTV it would be boring. Europe can be proud to have such a variety of languages, cultures and styles, that’s really make the ESC so special.

In the Bulgarian national final Poli Genova got the ticket to Düsseldorf with “Na Inat”. It’s still unclear if Poli will sing this song in English or in Bulgarian. The song “Na Inat” is a rock ballad with a very nice melody. The very sympathetic singer Poli is obviously enjoys performing that song, judging by the video clip. This song has quite high chances to qualify for the final this year. The question is if this song would be more attractive without the rock tunes? Even though the piano interlude is really easy to remember and sticks in people’s memory. This song has potential when listening to it for a couple of times, but maybe not by first hearing.
