Slovenia 2010

Slovenia Participant(s): Ansambel Roka Žlindre & Kalamari
Song: Narodnozabavni Rock
Writer(s): Leon Oblak
Composer(s): Marino Legovic

Ansambel Roka Žlindre & Kalamari Since the collapse of the former Yugoslavia, Slovenia takes part in the Eurovision Song Contest as an individual country since 1993. Slovenia cannot really be put in one corner and from the musical point of view it’s in the middle of Eastern and Western European music styles. The best position Slovenia reached with rank 7 twice “Prishluni mi” by Darja Svaiger in 1995 and “Energy” by Nusa Derenda in 2001. Many people always mention the “Balkan connection”, unfortunately Slovenia has not really benefitted from this. But there were many excellent songs in Slovenia’s history in Eurovision.

This year it’s quite a joke from Slovenia. In the traditional pre decision EMA there were many good entries and surprisingly the weirdest has won. “Nardodnozabavni rock” is a strange mixture of rock music with Alpine folk music. This is not the first time in ESC for Alpine folk music; Austria has made an attempt in 2005 with “A ysí” by Global Kryner, which was a clever mix of folk and Latin music. This Slovenian song is really falls out of the ordinary, but in a quite exhausting way. This song is definitely one of the weakest songs Slovenia ever had in Eurovision.
