Romania 2010

Romania Participant(s): Paula Seling & Ovi
Song: Playing with fire
Writer(s): Ovidiu Cernauteanu
Composer(s): Ovidiu Cernauteanu

Paula Seling & Ovi For the 12th time Romania is going to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest this year. The first Romanian entry was “Dincolo di Nori” by Dan Bittman in 1994, which came 21st - a rock ballad from the finest. After the first participations in the 90’s Romania has become one of the most successful countries recently, this is mainly due to the fact that the Romanian entries always have been top modern and in a way a cutting-edge, but has never won it so far. Hence, Romania has always been qualifying for the final, where other countries struggled to get into it. Romania does not profit from the so called “Balkan Connection”, but it’s getting votes from all over Europe from Portugal to Estonia. The best position a Romanian entry ever could achieve was a third rank “Let me try” by Luminita Anghel & Sistem in 2005. If Romania is going to follow this contest with such a great enthusiasm and creativity it won’t take long to see the Eurovision Song Contest in Bucharest.

Let’s see if this year’s entry “Playing with fire” can come closer to victory. The sympathetic duo Paula Seling & Ovi have convinced in great pre decision in front of a young crowd. This is also a proof that the Eurovision Song Contest is still up to date, young people are interested, because it’s the style of music they would like to listen to. The song is fast pop ballad with a catchy chorus, reminds a bit of last year’s entry from Azerbaijan “Always”. This might be a definite qualifier.
