This year’s entry for Eurovision is going to be the 6th participation for Moldova already. Since the debut in 2005 Moldova had a respectable success regarding qualifications for the finals as well as good rankings, only one time Moldova failed in the qualification in 2008. Last year’s entry “Hora din Moldova” sung by Nelly Ciobanu has reached a good 14th place in the final in Moscow, it was a folkloristic song full of energy, bringing Moldovan culture on stage in front of millions of TV spectators. For many people Moldova is a quite unknown place on the European map. Of course it’s a rather young country, existing since 1991 located between Romania and the Ukraine, one more reason for the common and similar culture in that region. Therefore it’s no wonder that these countries are likely to vote for each other. Especially the Eastern European countries put a lot of effort in their contribution at Eurovision, as the music industry is not the biggest, the Eurovision Song Contest is a great opportunity to have a really big audience.
Starting as first entry in this year’s Semi Final 1, Moldova is a quite energetic and promising opener. “Run away” is a very contemporary and joyful pop song, with violin elements paired with a funky rhythm and a catchy melody. Due to the fact that the majority of this year’s contributions are ballads, the Moldovan song might really rock the arena. The young singers seem to be very optimistic and happy on stage. Let’s hope they will bring all their energy on stage in the Telenor Arena.
