Iceland 2010

Iceland Participant(s): Hera Björk
Song: Je ne sais quoi
Writer(s): Örlygur Smári & Hera Björk
Composer(s): Örlygur Smári & Hera Björk

Hera Björk Iceland is one of the latest Western European countries, who joined the Eurovision family in 1986, after that only Andorra (2004) and San Marino (2008) entered. In the late 80’s Icelandic entries were not that lucky regarding points, the first remarkable 4th rank could be achieved in 1990 with “Eitt lag enn” by Stjórnin. And furthermore, Iceland was twice very close to victory in 1999 with “All out of luck” by Selma (2nd) and last year in Moscow with “Is it true” by Yohanna (2nd). Beside of the statistics, Icelandic entries were always special and mostly of high quality, remember “Sjúbidu” by Anna Mjöll (13th) in 1996, “Minn hinsti Dans” by Paul Oscar (20th) in 1997 or “Open your heart” by Birgitta (8th) in 2003.

This year, Iceland will be represented by Hera Björk with an up-tempo and melodic song “Je ne sais quoi”. This is an easygoing and pleasant song which does not bring a new sound to this year’s Eurovision. It’s always a hard task to defend a good position from the previous year. Hera Björk has already participated with “Someday” in the Danish final last year and has made many fans, but this year she is representing her home country Iceland. Using a title in a different language is also quite common at Eurovision; it definitely has an impact on the international appeal. Hera – the “Icelandic Chiara” is going to start in the First Semi Final on the 25th May. With this song, the very sympathetic singer with her strong voice can make it easily into the final.
