Vukašin Brajic Bosnia & Herzegovina always had a special status in the Eurovision Song Contest. The Balkan war was not even over and the country participated in the ESC 1993. That was courageous and exemplary and often honored with lots of applause and points. In the early years, the contributions of Bosnia & Herzegovina were very much Balkan music, even with popular singers, but for the rest of Europe probably a bit too sad and melancholic. It has changed with the 1999 entry “Putnici” by Dino & Beatrice, who brought a new and successful style of Balkan music into the ESC, which many other countries adapted. The country has become more and more audacious and tried many music styles from disco to ABBA-like schlager.

This year it’s going to be more solid with “Thunder and Lightning”, a bit rocky with an interesting chorus. The singer and song has been determined by the TV station and there was a song presentation, which looked like a pre decision. The problem of the song is that it’s not going to be remembered after all the other songs. For not being overseen it must be worked on the stage presentation. Even the audience was delighted in a moderate way only. This is always the problem if the TV-spectators can’t vote for their singer who should represent the country. For example last year’s German entry has been determined by the TV station and the country did not like it at all, so the Germans did not identify with that song.
