For the third time Azerbaijan is taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest. Who could have ever imagined that the Eurovision Song Contest is getting that big as it nowadays is with more or less than 40 participating countries? Furthermore the geographical borders have gone wider and wider over the years, so all of the Caucasian countries Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan are taking part in the world’s biggest music event by now. Azerbaijan is situated even more eastern than the Ukraine; of course Russia is topping this with the Far Eastern part around Vladivostok and Kamchatka. Generally, it is possible for a lot more countries to take part in the ESC like Australia or New Zealand, as long as they are active members of the EBU (European Broadcasting Union). But there would be difficulties with the different time zones.

From the ESC history we have learned that a bit of spice from the East is very beneficial for the contest. There are new music styles, rhythms, folklore and enthusiasm. For the long-established countries the competition has become harder, but for the viewers and from the musical point of view, the ESC has gone especially strong with the power of the Eastern European countries.

This year Azerbaijan will be represented by another hopeful song “Drip Drop”. For the first time a solo female will sing for Azerbaijan. The song itself has no folklore at all, furthermore it sounds like an all-American song, which is quite catchy after listening for a couple of times. As the songs from Azerbaijan have all be very successful (8th and 3rd ranks), this one will probably also end up in the final in a good position.
