Ukraine 2009

Ukraine

Song: Be my Valentine! (Anti-crisis Girl)

Composer(s): Svetlana Loboda

Svetlana Loboda The Ukraine is one of the most successful countries in the Eurovision Song Contest recently. The victory with “Wild dances” performed by Ruslana has boosted the interest in the Ukraine enormously and that happened just one year after the debut. Beside of that there were two second places one in 2007 “Dancing Lasha Tumbai” by Verka Serduchka and 2008 with “Shady Lady” by Ani Lorak. It seems that the Ukrainians really know the recipe to win the ESC. The live performances on stage are stunning and show things, never seen before at Eurovision. Of course, there is always a bit circus on stage, but this seem to work and also animates other nations to bring more spectacle on stage. This doesn’t mean that calm ballads are overheard, also “Molitva” by Marija Serifovic did not have much action on stage.

This year it’s time for Svetlana. She already showed a shocking performance in the Ukrainian pre decision. The show was far too provocative and disproportionate. The whole choreography has been overworked and now you can expect the best. During the promo concert in Amsterdam, Svetlana really had the far best performance. The sexy dancers, the innovative and rhythmic exhibit were stunning. Svetlana received the best applause and that was the biggest surprise for everybody! “Be my valentine” is still striking and in the video clip you can watch the arduousness and perfection which has been added to this song. This is a strong candidate for the number one! Beware!
