Spain 2009

Spain Participant(s): Soraya
Song: La Noche Es Para Mí (The Night Is For Me)
Writer(s): Felipe Pedroso
Composer(s): Jason Gill, Dimitri Stassos, Irini Michas

Soraya Spain is only participating since 1961 in the Eurovision Song Contest and had two victories already: “La, la, la” by Massiel (1968) and “Vivo Cantando” by Salomé (1969). For many people one song is probably one of the best songs in Eurovision ever “Eres tu” by Mocedades who came 2nd in Luxembourg in 1973. In history there were many ballads from Spain, but in the recent years the faster uptempo songs have received higher points. Great Spanish artist have been singing for their country in the ESC like: Las Ketchup, Azucar Moreno, Sergio Dalma, Paloma San Basilio and Julio Eglesias. Due to the fact that Spain belongs to the Big 4 countries, it is automatically qualified for the final and does not have to compete in a semi final. The interest in Spain is always based on the singer and the song. When Rosa made it to Eurovision in 2002, all public places in ever bigger town were filled with electrified people who were following outdoors at public viewing.

This year there was also a public decision. And Soraya is now going to present her song “La noche es para mi” in a mix of English and Spanish. The song also has some oriental style elements. So this entry could also come from Armenia e.g.. Maybe this is the right mix of an uptempo song with a strong melody and oriental flair. She is a very sympathetic singer with lots of energy. At the promo concert in Amsterdam Soraya has proofed that the can rock the arena and her starting position in the final (25.) will guarantee that she won’t be overheard, the last starting place is probably the best you can get.
Good luck Soraya!
