Patricia Kaas France is one of the “founding” members of the Eurovision family. From the very first year in 1956 France has a long track list of unforgettable and outstanding chansons. Five times the French were more than lucky to win the contest: “Dors mon Amour” by André Claveau (1958), “Tom Pilibi” by Jacqueline Boyer (1960), “Un premier Amour” by Isabelle Aubret (1962), “Un jour, un enfant” by Frida Boccara and “L’oiseau et l’enfant” by Marie Myriam. If you imagine that the last victory was in 1977 – more than 30 years ago, it’s really time for another victory after all this effort. It also must be taken into consideration that the competition has become even more tough. This year there are 42 countries in the ESC and they are all keen to win. The majority of the participants are singing in English that might be an advantage. Marija Serifovic from Serbia has shown the other way round and has won in her native language Serbian, so it’s not unrealistic to succeed with the official language of the country.
That was even more the attraction of the contest in former years that every country had to sing in his native language. For the TV spectators it definitely is a plus to listen to songs in Romanian, Icelandic or French. Diversity is often highly rewarded in the Eurovision Song Contest with points.

In the recent years France did not shape up very well, like all the other Big 4 countries (Germany, Spain and the UK). One reason could be that the songs are only shown once in the final, whilst the countries which have to pass the semi finals have the privilege to be on stage twice. Furthermore many people believe that it’s unfair that the Big 4 countries are automatically set for the final so that the countries don’t push themselves anymore.
But this year everything could be changed. France is going to be represented by one of the most popular French artist: Patricia Kaas! First there were only rumors, but later on it has been confirmed. She wanted to save her countries pride. From the past we know that a big name does not automatically mean receiving a top position. DJ Bobo and also Kate Ryan did not even qualify for the final.
The song “Il failait le faire” is a typical French chanson in the cabaret style. That’s also the name of her latest album “Cabaret”, which is really recommendable. This song will totally fall out of the others. It’s calm, dramatic and very French a bit melancholic though. This song has a class, no other entry ever reaches this year. It just depends on the taste of the juries and televoters if this song will succeed or fail. Patricia is not playing a role, she is just herself, dances at the end of her song and she does not need a circus on stage. This is pure sensation!
