Moldova 2008

Moldova

Participant(s): Geta Burlacu
Song: A century of love
Writer(s): Viorica Demici
Composer(s): Oleg Baraliuc

Geta Burlacu One of the quite new countries recently is Moldova. The debut was in the year of 2005 in Kiev when “Boonika Bate Toba” came 6th in the final – the song with the grandma on a rocking chair. Last year Natalie Barbu came 10th in the final with “Fight”. Maybe this proofs that new and innovative styles are very much appreciated at Eurovision.
There is not a big music industry in Moldova so that’s why those countries from Eastern Europe take the Eurovision Song Contest so seriously. This is the once-in-a-year-chance to be represented worldwide for three minutes. For example the Australians will watch the show with a very high interest over the years and when there is a great song from Moldova they are probably keen to know more about this song and the country. So these countries give naturally their best. That’s a good point of view for the Western European countries.

This year Moldova is bringing Jazz into Eurovision. As the contest is open to all kind of music styles, Jazz is not really new. The song “A Century of Love” is a bit monotone and plashes a long. There is no climax or a special vocal height. Furthermore there is no glamour at all. Geta is a very experienced singer, but her song this is probably too weak for the contest.
