It has been a great enrichment to the Eurovision Song Contest when Cyprus entered in 1981. As Greek is the official language it’s obviously connected culturally very well with Greece. So it’s no wonder that Greece and Cyprus have the similar taste of music and during the voting procedure they often give each other the 12 points. This is almost for granted in every year.
Over the years there were outstanding songs from Cyprus, remember Evridiki she participated three times already. Last year in Helsinki she failed with an uptempo song. The Cypriot entries often used folkloristic sounds in their compositions. So also this year Cyprus comes back to it’s traditional music. “Femme Fatale” sounds very Greek and goes faster at the end of the song, like a Zirtaki. As it appears a bit old fashioned it will definitely stand out of the general style of music this year. Unfortunately this song must be heard several times to get used to.
