Finland 2005

Finland

Participant(s): Geir Rönning
Song: Why
Writer(s): Steven Stewart
Composer(s): Mika Toivanen

Geir Rönning There are some countries in Eurovision which take part every year - and no matter how good they are - they always end up on the last ranks. Such a country is Finland. Together with Norway, Finland ended up last mostly. Why is this so? In former times when every country had to sing in its native language - the Finns had a hard task to receive interest and understandment. Since the last years every country is able to sing in English, but for Finland there hasn't changed anything concerning the success. Music from Finland is quite strange, sad melodies and country songs in general. But the Finns never gave up, also sending fresh songs like "Addicted to you" by Laura (Tallinn 2002). Last years entry "Takes 2 to Tango" was oldfashioned again.

This year Finland has a quite international song "Why" by Geir Rönning, which doesn't sound quite happily, quite sentimentally indeed. Compared to other countries this year you will notice a little difference in the style of the songs. It sounds more adultish, less childish. After 50 years of hundreds of trash songs you can now listen to many high quality songs which can be played on any radio station in the world. Paljon onnea Suomi!
