Spain - a country with great passion for music has always sent beautiful ballads like "La Fiesta Termino" by Paloma San Basilio (Gothenburg 1985) or catchy pop songs like "Bandido" by Azùkar Moreno (Zagreb 1990) to the Eurovision Song Contest. But the country only won twice in 1968 with "La la la" by Massiel and 1969 (in a four way tie with The Netherlands, United Kingdom and France) with "Vivo Cantando" sung by Salomé.

Since Spain has chosen a different selection method for finding their Eurovision entry called "Operación Triunfo" and the first winner, Rosa, participated in Tallinn in 2002 - the interest in the Eurovision is incredibly high. In the centres of larger cities large screens are put up to show the live transmission of the contest to an enthusiastic crowd. The atmosphere is overwhelming. Due to the fact that Spain is one of the largest financiers in the EBU (like Germany, United Kingdom and France), it doesn't have to participate in the qualifying round and is automatically admitted to the final no matter how well they did the previous year.

"Operación Triunfo" is a casting show in which over months a new Spanish superstar is looked for. This years winner is Ramon, an 18 year old guy from Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. He gained 23% of all votes and will participate in Istanbul with his catchy pop song "Para llenarme de ti".
