The United Kingdom is taking party every year at the Eurovision Song Contest since 1957. The UK singers are often well known and sound like the "who is who" in the history of Eurovision: Sandy Shaw, Cliff Richard, The New Seekers, Lynsey de Paul & Mike Moran, Olivia Newton John, Bucks Fizz, Michael Ball, Brotherhood of Man, Sonia, Gina G. and Kathrina & The Waves. Five times the UK was happy to win the contest. Generally the songs were very up to date and showed the taste of music of the year and have been great hits.

The successful concept of the BBC and the British Academy for Songwriters has brought eight songs to the final. The TV spectators were able to vote via televoting. The duo Jemini (formerly Tricity) won the final. It consists of Gemina Abbes and Chris Cromb - both from Liverpool. The song is - as usual - a danceable up-tempo song, which has good international chances.
